Hey Ladies! So the other day I posted a wash day routine video on my relaxed hair on Instagram. During the times that we are currently in I thought it would be important to share with you guys how to upkeep your hair yourself at home. You don’t have to be a pro, it’s a very simple routine you can follow. Watch it here!
I’d also like to mention that I’m using this time to give my hair more TLC. Every 2 weeks I’m making a conscious effort to do a hot oil and a deep conditioning treatment. My oil of choice right now is extra virgin olive oil. It provides moisture, reduces shedding, eliminates split ends (especially important now that I’m not able to get regular trims at the salon) and helps with the overall health of your hair. I’m super happy to have seen all these benefits already, so get yourself some olive oil girl.
In addition to the video here are some tips that I use on a regular basis that provide me with a long lasting and great looking wash/set.
1- Use a minimal amount of products. Piling up lots of product on your hair will only weigh it down. Most hair products (especially hair serums) are concentrated so a small amount goes a long way. If you hair is weighed down it won’t. Something worth mentioning is to learn how to layer your products properly. So first put your liquid (that can be a leave-in conditioner or detangling spray) making sure to focus on the scalp, then add your cream, finally “seal” with a hair oil or serum. So that’s already 3 products going in your hair, you can already see how heavy your hair would feel afterwords if you were to apply a generous amount of product for each.
2- Blow dry your hair in different directions. By doing that your hair can be easily parted and styled without looking stiff when changing your parting.
3- Let your hair cool down. Before putting a comb through your hair after flat ironing let it set/cool down for a few minutes before final styling.
4-Use the cool shot from the blow dryer. After blow drying each section quickly go over it with the cool shot to help eliminate frizz.
3-Last but least and this is for when we are allowed back outside or if you are 1000% comfortable doing it yourself, Keep up with trims. Trimming your ends regularly not only promotes healthy hair growth but it also helps in the manageability of your hair by eliminating split ends and provides your hair with movement. You know that feeling after you walk out of the salon and you turn your head even in the slightest and your hair follows?? Yeah, that’s thanks to the trim!
And that’s all guys, if you have any questions I’ll be happy to answer them in the comments. If you have a friend who could use the help in doing their hair themselves, do share this blog post with them, they’ll will be happy you did.
Thank you Ladies for reading!
